Teaching Philosophy:
...Music is a language. Through music, we can tell stories, create memories, and inspire amazing things. However, like any other language it is one that must be taught. There are numerous methods of teaching any language. My personal philosophy of teaching music is to lay a firm foundation through theory, technique, musicality, and ensemble performance in pertinence to percussion. While this differs for every unique percussion instrument, a firm foundation leads to a solid grasp of the language allowing freedom, expression, and communication ultimately resulting in making real music...."

Education & Experience:
I graduated from Waunakee High School (Wisconsin) and from Indiana University Bloomington Jacobs School of Music for Music Performance in Percussion.

Genre(s):
I am strong in orchestral percussion, concert percussion, marching percussion, studio & big band drumset, world ethnic percussion, and also jazz improvisation. Within each of those worlds, there are numerous styles (both culturally relevant today and historical)that I can play. For instance, I can play a variety of rock, funk, metal, latin, samba, blues, jazz, and modern age on drumset.

Also,there are huge differences in concert percussion and orchestral percussion through a historical perspective. Those are more complicated to explain, but differences in style between Mozart and Mahler on the timpani is a huge style/genre change. That idea can be applied to all classical/concert percussion families.
